Gladi c3 a1tor for sale. Also, watching this as a kid was a mostake, i spoiled this amazing movie to miself without understanding it.

I found this film to be massively overhyped, and was unbearably derivative, particularly of Spartacus.
Spartacus, on he other hand, is one of my all time favourite films. And given the immense similarities, I should have at least found Gladiator ntertaining. And I figured out why I didnt today - characters. Gladiator has none. Maximus the Gladiator is deliberately played by Crowe as a walking Zombie throughout the film, the Emperor is barking mad, and only Oliver Reed's part has any sort of substance, and even then is a carbon-copy of Peter Ustinov in Spartacus.
And speaking of carbon-copies, the emperor bears a strong resemblance to John Hurt as Caligula in the classic tv series I, Claudius (incidentally, Derek Jacobi, Claudius in that series, crops up in a small role here. However, Hurt's character had far more depth and believabilitly, and most importantly, was better played.
None of the other characters here really got anything to do, so that rules them out as well.
At least the emperor was fairly enjoyable to watch. Joaquim Phoenix has a lot of potential, he should go far.
And another thing. The score was dreadful. God knows why it sold so well. And God knows how come this film got so any Oscars. Russell Crowe as best actor? How difficult is it to look grim and stand still a lot? Dear oh dear.
The best scene was the opening battle. That, at least, was brilliantly filmed and very powerful. If only the rest could have lived up to it.
If you liked this, you should vastly prefer Spartacus and I, Claudius. If you havent seen this, dont bother and watch those instead.

Russell Crowe(Maximus)Gives a electrifying performance as does Joaquin Phoenix(Commodus) i found the young boy Spencer Treat Clark(Lucius)very very Annoying i cant quite say if it was his acting or the character that i found annoying maybe it was Scott as always flies pass the directing medium at the speed of are some extremely exciting battle sequences the gore was not out of control i really appreciate when a director can keep the gore under control now i am not saying there was no blood because there was but the way he showed the blood was quite music is extremely powerful making the movie very exciting.I really enjoyed the screenplay the actors worked very well off of each storyline was very good i was only bored for a total of about 10 minutes out of the 2 hours and 35 minutes which is quite good.

For Gianfranco and his friend Annarita, a couple of teenagers growing up in Milan, life in a heavily regimented, surveillance-rich command economy is just plain dreary. The eventual withering-away of the state doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon. Annarita's a hard-working student and a member of the Young Socialists' League. Gianfranco is a lot less motivated--but on the other hand, his father's a Party apparatchik. The biggest excitement in their lives is a wargame shop called The Gladiator, which runs tournaments, and stocks marvelous complex games you can't find anywhere else. Then, abruptly, the shop is shut down. Someone's figured out that The Gladiator's games are teaching counterrevolutionary capitalist principles. The Security Police are searching high and low for the shop's proprietors, who've not only vanished into thin air, but have left behind sets of fingerprints that aren't in the records of any government on earth. Only one staffer is left: Gianfranco and Annarita's friend Eduardo. He's on the run, and he comes to them in secret with an astonishing story: he's a time trader from our own timeline, accidentally left behind when the store was evacuated. The only way Eduardo can get home to his own timeline is if Gianfranco and Annarita can help him reach one of the other time trader sites in this world - and the Security Police will be on their tails all the way there...

Gladiator battle. Gladiator ending. A genius opening scene. From one man observing a tiny bird in the forest, panning round to thousands of men, horses and equipment preparing for battle. Best scene in the movie. “What we do in life echoes in eternity”. After watching Game of Thrones season 8, it was agreed that, a one handed Maximus can still beat the Night King and his Army.
